Local Program
1-2 hour initial assessment with initiation of treatment
Subsequent treatment sessions are scheduled one on one with an Advanced Certified Schroth Therapist
Sessions are individualized as no two patients or curves are alike and treatment frequency will be discussed during your initial assessment
Intensive Program
This program allows patients to develop a deeper understanding and integration of corrective concepts in a shorter period of time
Ideal for patients traveling from out of town and those wanting to minimize time off from work or school
Schedule option A: 4 hours per day (2 sessions) x 5 consecutive days
Schedule option B: 4 hours per day (2 sessions) over 2-3 weekends
Home Program
The goal of clinic time is for patients to progress to the point of being able to perform the exercises independently and to integrate the corrections into daily movement patterns. Patients will be given a written home exercise program, equipment recommendations and will be offered opportunities to take short videos of treatment segments to facilitate home practice. Adolescents are encouraged to perform their program a minimum of 30 minutes per day 5 days per week. Adult programs vary depending on rigidity of the curve, co-morbidities and overall health. Your therapist will help guide you and create a home program that is right for you.
Follow Up Treatment
While the frequency of follow up treatment is variable based on factors such as risk for progression, pain, age of child, etc., subsequent treatment sessions are an important part of your care. It allows the therapist to advance your home program as needed to continue to challenge and strengthen your body in the 3D correction. It also allows your therapist to assess your ability to integrate corrections into daily movement patterns and make changes as necessary to maximize the effectiveness of your treatment.
Core and More
Although not corrective for scoliosis, core strengthening is important for all of us. Once patients are able to perform and maintain their curve specific corrections according to Schroth principles, they are further challenged with the integration of Pilates and core strengthening.
Medicupping
Myofascial restrictions can make expanding collapsed areas of the body more challenging. Our cupping technique utilizes vacuum assisted negative pressure which can be applied before and during treatment sessions. This technique is effective in lifting and separating the layers of tissue, increasing blood flow and improving kinesthetic awareness and muscle activation in the areas of collapse. Patients often report decreased pain and demonstrate improved postural balance after a single treatment.
Bracing Recommendations / Scanning
Brace fit and recommendations can be made for both adolescents and adults. While adolescent bracing is based on SOSORT guidelines (full time rigid bracing for skeletally immature patients with a curve of 25 degrees or more), adult bracing recommendations are based on pain and functional limitations. Advanced Scoliosis Care works closely with Align Clinic, maker of the WCR brace, and has hosted over 20 clinics in the 2 years before Align opened a permanent location in The Woodlands, TX. The concepts of the brace are similar to those applied by a BSPTS Schroth trained therapist as the concepts for both were originally designed by Dr. Manuel Rigo. While brace fitting will now be in The Woodlands, measurements and scans may still be scheduled at Advanced Scoliosis Care in Bryan for patients outside the Houston area.
